Mass FID Card Laws

Massachusetts General Laws that apply to Mass FID Card include the following:


Chapter 140: Section 129B. Firearm identification cards; conditions and restrictions.

Chapter 140: Section 131. Licenses to carry firearms; Class A and B; conditions and restrictions.

Chapter 140: Section 131C. Carrying of firearms in a vehicle.

 Chapter 140: Section 131K Firearms or large capacity weapons without safety devices; liability


Chapter 140: Section 131L. Weapons stored or kept by owner; inoperable by any person other than owner or lawfully authorized user; punishment.

Chapter 209A: Section 3C. Continuation or modification of order for surrender or suspension.

Chapter 140: Section 128B. Unauthorized purchase of firearms; report to commissioner; penalties.

Chapter 140: Section 131F. Nonresidents or aliens; temporary license to carry firearms or ammunition.

Chapter 140: Section 131H. Ownership or possession of firearms by aliens; penalties; seizure and disposition.


Chapter 140: Section 131I. Falsifying firearm license or identification card; penalty.


Chapter 140: Section 131J. Sale or possession of electrical weapons; penalties.

Chapter 269: Section 12B. Possession of air rifle by minor under eighteen; shooting air rifle; disposition on conviction for violation.

Requirements for Massachusetts FID Card

REQUIREMENTS FOR AN FID CARD/PISTOL PERMIT IN MASSACHUSETTS


Resident License to Carry (LTC) Firearms
To lawfully possess a handgun, you must have a valid LTC.


Resident Firearms Identification (FID) Cards

To lawfully possess a rifle, shotgun, ammunition, or chemical propellant spray, you must possess a valid FID card.


Resident Aliens
Persons who are not citizens of the United States, and are residents of Massachusetts may not possess large capacity rifles, shotguns, handguns or non-large capacity handguns.

These persons may only possess non-large capacity rifles, shotguns, ammunition, and chemical propellant spray.

Non-Residents Carrying Firearms within the Commonwealth
A United States citizen who is not a resident of Lynn, Massachusetts may possess rifles, shotguns, and firearms if certain situations apply. If the situations described in the law do not apply, the non-resident citizen must apply for a temporary non-resident LTC. 


Non-Resident Aliens
The FRB may issue a Class A or Class B temporary license to carry firearms, or feeding devices, or ammunition. These licenses may be issued only to aliens who are not residents of Lynn, Massachusetts, for such purposes as firearms competitions, and may be subject to other terms and conditions.
